About Joy

I am a ‘dreamer’ and I had a dream. Not as profound as Dr Martin Luther King, but one I decided to write down as a fictional novel. The nightmare of escaping. What would I take? How would I save my family, my animals? What thoughts went through the minds of people who needed to escape the threat of Fascism and war in Europe between 1939 and 1945.

I have been fascinated by the research I have done into the historical facts of WW2, as experienced by fleeing citizens and military personnel. The subsequent lives of refugees and evacuees in Britain are woven into the fictional story.

A Plan of Willup Hall

A sequal to Willup Hall is due to be published shortly.

I started writing children’s stories when my children were small and have since since published Whizzy Saves Christmas and Whizzy Goes To The Show.

The Creation of The Flying Pig

Stanley Ashton (Joy’s Father) created the Whizzy stories for his two girls, Joan and Joy. When his grandchildren were born Stanley was known as Bompa, and Freda, his wife was always called Gran. Joy carried on telling the Whizzy stories to her children Charles, Annaand Henry and to their cousins Jonathon and Katy.

Now it is the turn of Harriet, Olivia, Ethan and Betsy and their cousines Emily, Gabrielleand Phoebe to hear their stories.

Bompa used to own an enormous pig called Big Bertha and Whizzy was one of her many piglets.
